2023 Idaho Sled Dog Challenge

Mickey Pillers K7THP event radio communications coordinator

CIARC members Mickey Pillers, Brian Hamilton, Ron Walker, Larry Stokes and John Quinzio teamed up with amateur radio enthusiasts from throughout Idaho to create and operate the 2023 Idaho Sled Dog Challenge communications network. The CIARC repeater network, linked with a remote repeater site K7ZZL , created a robust communications infrastructure . Amateur radio operators provided 66 hours of around-the-clock continuous event radio communications.

A December 2022 ARRL QST Magazine article highlighted the role amateur radio and CIARC played in support of the 2022 event.

Dear Volunteer,

The Idaho Sled Dog Challenge asks a lot of you as a volunteer and I want you to know that your selfless contribution of time, talent, energy and often sleep deprived persistence is so very much appreciated.

The Idaho Sled Dog Challenge is something special and much more than just a dog race. It’s the wide eyed excitement of kids at the start line, its lifetime “Call of the Wild” memories and its community spirit uniting for common purpose.

Thank you for being part of that.

Jerry Wortley
Race Director

IMTUF 100 – Idaho Mountain Trail Ultra Festival

CIARC,

Thank you for your support and the use of your repeaters. There was a scramble for an alternate way to communicate with the scare of the fire but it worked out well and the repeater worked wonderfully. I hope to work with you in the future. Tentatively it will be September 9 & 10th 2023. I will let you know when it has been confirmed.

Darrow H.(Herb) Ankrum II, K7DHA

Four Corners Fire

CIARC took advantage of the Four Corners Fire incident to test the readiness of our communications trailer. Member Hank Welch W6HTW gave us a spot on his lakeside place to park the trailer for 24 hrs and operate our radio gear. This was our first emergency style deployment. We did some fine tuning of our set-up and how we would we deploy it in the future.
